History On The Water A New Viewpoint On History
Get a new perspective on Old Tampa Bay while enjoying a placid boat ride as a docent from the Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History brings to life the history of our area.
Departing from historic Safety Harbor on the western shore of Tampa Bay, your guide will recall the time when visitors were first drawn to this place, "Where the Healing Waters Flow". While watching the spectacular wildlife and natural surroundings of the area, you'll also learn more about the original area dwellers, the Tocobaga Indians.
As you cruise northward along the shores of our oldest park, Philippe Park, you'll hear about its' namesake, the famed citrus plantation pioneer settler who introduced grapefruits to Florida, the colorful Odet Philippe.
Located on the north end of Old Tampa Bay, connecting Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties, you'll see the shores of Oldsmar. Originally named R. E. Olds-On-The-Bay after its founder Ransom E. Olds, the automobile maker, the town's name was later changed to Oldsmar. That's just one of the interesting tid-bits your guide will expound on as you leisurly cruise Old Tampa Bay.
