Local Artist Spotlight: Clayton Swartz
The St. Pete/Clearwater area is home to many talented artists that work in a multitude of mediums. One such artist is Pinellas Park based metal sculptor Clayton Swartz. His creations range from moumental outdoor installations to residential wall sculptures.
The artwork is formed from raw metal that is cut, welded, molded, heated, bent, and coaxed into abstracted forms ranging from the sea and its creatures, to urban cityscapes. The sculptures are then finished with a grinder and airbrushed with often vibrant translucent enamels, making them uniquely captivating pieces.
As you explore St. Pete/Clearwater, keep an eye out for his work, it can be seen in a variety of public spaces and galleries throughout the area. If you are in the neighborhood of Pinellas Park (centrally located between St. Petersburg and Clearwater), be sure to check out Park Station, an historic and beautifully restored train station on Park Boulevard, where you can see Clayton Swartz' dramatic "Heart of Pinellas" sculpture. While you are there, drop into the Pinellas Park Historical Museum, located on the second floor of the Station.
If you are hungry for some great food and want to see more of Clayton Swartz' art, head to the ever popular Salt Rock Grill, located on the Intracoastal Waterway in Indian Shores Beach. Not only will you see 12 unique pieces of Mr. Swartz' art on disply in the restaurant, you can also sample some delicious fare from one of the area's culinary leaders, Chef Tom Pritchard.
Other areas where you can see Clayton Swartz' art include Studio Encanto, in downtown St. Petersburg. This fine arts gallery touts itself as the "must see gallery" of St. Petersburg and presents the artwork of many talented local artists. Many of Mr. Swartz' pieces are also displayed on the grounds of his workshop.
