The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area’s museums 2007 exhibits are sure to please aficionados of any era of art and history.
The Salvador Dalí Museum presents Spanish master paintings alongside works by Dali. Dali and the Spanish Baroque. The exibit seeks to demonstrate an important aspect of Dali's approach to painting, which is an incorporation of elements from Baroque painting. It runs trhough June 24, 2007.
The Florida International Museum’s Wolf to Woof: The Story of Dogs exhibit runs January 19 to May 13, 2007. The largest and most comprehensive travelling exhibition ever created to explore the history, biology and development of dogs and their role in human societies. Wondrous Cold: An Antarctic Journey exhibit runs June 23 to September 3, 2007. Award winning photographer Joan Myer's collection of 50 spectacular photographs depict the sweeping panoramas of the Antarctic's severe beauty. Arms and Armor runs September 16 to December 31, 2007. The exhibit focuses on the legendary knights of the Medieval and Renaissance world, their tournaments, battles and victories.
Celebrating its fifth year anniversary, the Leepa-Rattner Museum shows a moving exhibition. Reflections, represents an artistic response to the genocidal persecution of European Jewry during the 1930s and 1940s created by Abraham Rattner (American, 1893 – 1978) during the early 1960s, 20 years after the Allies’ discovery of Belsen, Buchenwald, Treblinka and Auschwitz. April 28-June 24, 2007.
The Museum of Fine Arts debuts a multitude of diverse exhibits in 2007. Through July 9 Compelling Visions: Florida Collects Folk Art. This exhibition offers on of the most expansive exhibitions of folk art ever presented in the area. 135 unforgettable works by 71 artists from seven private collections. On the Road: Photographs Across America and 20th Century North Carolina Pottery: A Time-Honored Tradition run through July 1st. Tibetan Bronzes October 6, 2007 through February 24, 2008, Poetry of the Commonplace: A Selection of Latin American Photographs, October 16, 2007 through January 6, 2008
The Gulf Coast Museum of Art Marlene Rose: Ancient and Elemental celebrates the unique properties of glass: transparency, shine and reflection through the artists' one-of-a-kind glass objects. Runs May 13 to July 15,2007. Pablo Siebel's work reflects a tacit understanding of human nature through his fantastical paintings and decorated sculptures. Runs July 28 to October 14, 2007.
